Thought of the day......

This country was founded and then fostered by people who valued liberty highly: immigrant generations and their immediate children. As time has passed, Americans have become more removed from that overwhelming concern. The majority of earlier generations (or their parents) had direct personal experience of what lack of liberty felt like, and therefore were willing to defend liberty at almost any cost.

Perhaps too many Americans today have grown accustomed to the blessings of liberty, and do not feel it to be threatened. Perhaps there is no way to transmit that original fierce love of liberty to succeeding generations who have not personally felt the pain of its absence. Such Americans appear very susceptible to the idea that a vast country such as ours has the moral responsibility to guarantee health care to all its citizens as an additional inalienable right — whether they can pay or not, whether the country as a whole can afford it or not, whether it will cause substandard care for the majority or not, and whether it will end our ability to make our own medical decisions or not — and that only government is equipped to do this, even if it means taking from each according to his ability, and giving to each according to his needs, and even if the entire endeavor is impossible to carry off.

Have Americans decided that liberty is passé, and that equality and fraternity — or the pretense of both — are far more important? To paraphrase Churchill’s famous statement about Munich, in which he is purported to have said that “the government had to choose between war and shame. They chose shame. They will get war, too.”

Our government has had to choose between liberty and social justice. They chose social justice. They will get neither.
From here.

Creation of a new right, through the guarantee of healthcare for all Americans will not only be impossible to deliver but also done so poorly and only prove to be the end of all rights that Americans have enjoyed for over 2 centuries. Our liberties as Americans are now gone and replaced by the dead hand of a gigantic government.

Bad science, bad bad scientists.....

Anti-abortionists are fooling themselves....

If anti-abortionists think that they will ultimately prevail in not allowing federal funding for abortion, then they are not thinking. As the Democrats march forward with the socialization of healthcare in the US, it will be impossible to not allow federal funding for the procedure.

As time goes by, the nation will eventually become a single payer system where all healthcare will be determined, administered and paid for out of government funds. The current 'healthcare' plan passed by Congress is just the first step in nationalization of health care in the country. In that environment, it will be impossible to not allow for abortions since it is not something that is illegal. Also, there will be no effective way to fight against this in future Congresses since it is something that is currently allowed and covered under some health plans. Remember, abortion currently, is not illegal and will ultimately be allowed under the planned single payer system since it will be argued that since the only options for the 'poor' or anyone else is delivering it inside the government system since it is the only system available to people. Abortions will ultimately be provided by and paid for though government paid for healthcare and will be offered to everyone, paid for by everyone.

As far as I am concerned, it is not worth fighting against. The best option for people is to leave. Besides, Americans will eventually be getting their private healthcare outside of the US probably in South America or here in Asia since abortion will be provided but many other things will not. This will all end up being a complete and total disaster and mess.

Communist Party of the USA is achieving its goals of American socialism through the Democrats and Republicans....

From the Communist Party website....
The CPUSA constitution and program

According to its 2001 Constitution, the party operates on the principle of democratic centralism, its highest authority being the quadrennial National Convention. Article VI, Section 3 of the 2001 Constitution lays out certain positions as non-negotiable: "struggle for the unity of the working class, against all forms of national oppression, national chauvinism, discrimination and segregation, against all racist ideologies and practices… against all manifestations of male supremacy and discrimination against women… against homophobia and all manifestations of discrimination against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people…" CPUSA Constitution Amended July 8, 2001 at the 27th National Convention, Milwaukee, WI. Accessed online 29 August 2006.

Among the points in the party's "Immediate Program" are a $12/hour minimum wage for all workers, national universal health care, and opposition to privatization of United States Social Security. Economic measures such as increased taxes on "the rich and corporations," "strong regulation" of the financial industry, "regulation and public ownership of utilities," and increased federal aid to cities and states; opposition to the Iraq War and other military interventions; opposition to free trade treaties such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); nuclear disarmament and a reduced military budget; various civil rights provisions; campaign finance reform including public financing of campaigns; and election law reform, including Instant Runoff Voting.

Bill of Rights socialism

The Communist Party USA emphasizes a vision of socialism as an extension of American democracy. Seeking to "build socialism in the United States based on the revolutionary traditions and struggles" of American history, the CPUSA promotes a conception of "Bill of Rights Socialism" that will "guarantee all the freedoms we've won over centuries of struggle, and also extend the Bill of Rights to include freedom from unemployment" as well as freedom "from poverty, from illiteracy, and from discrimination and oppression." Program of the Communist Party Reiterating the idea of property rights in socialist society as it's outlined in Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto, the Communist Party emphasizes that "Many myths have been propagated about socialism. Contrary to right-wing claims, socialism wouldn't take away the personal private property of workers," but "the private ownership of major industries, financial institutions, and other large corporations, and the excessive luxuries of the super-rich."

Rather than making all wages entirely equal, the Communist Party USA holds that building socialism would entail "eliminating private wealth from stock speculation, from private ownership of large corporations, from the export of capital and jobs, and from the exploitation of large numbers of workers."
Freedoms in the USA have not been the result of struggle, they are something that all people are born with and are granted by the creator. Governments are those that are charged with adjudicating these rights since the exercise of one's rights may overlap with the rights of others. For example, one is not allowed to build a home or cut down a tree for firewood on someone else's property. So people through history have devised mechanisms to adjudicate these rights and they have been efficiently embodied in the duties of governments.

But as we can see from the above, that such things as universal healthcare, the elimination of free trade among nations, an extraordinary focus on issues surrounding homosexuals, opposition to privatization of the bankrupt Social Security system, and a host of other things lead me to believe that the USA is mostly there in meeting the platform of the Communist Party. It also appears as if these things that the Communists are trying to achieve are remarkably similar to what Democrats support and have foisted on the American public in recent decades.

As far as I am concerned, the United States in on the slippery slope of Communism and it will lead to political repression, a command and control economy, elimination of freedom of expression, centralized schooling so that children are indoctrinated in socialism and the elimination of economic freedom. Most decisions in economic and social issues will be decreed out of Washington and there will be little latitude left to people to decide on their own and almost no economic opportunity. Economic opportunity will naturally flow to outside the US. Just look at the success of Communism in 20th century Russia, North Korea, 1960's China, post WWII Eastern Europe, etc. Why do we want to emulate these disasters?

The historic healthcare bill passed,.....

Good luck USA, this will kill more people than all the wars that the USA was in, combined.

Merry Christmas........

Merry Christmas to all and to all the believers as we remember this day that marks the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. God's grace shines on us.

Prayer for all of you Godless Democrats....

Our Father, Barack Obama, who art in Washington, hallowed be thy name.
Thy United States come, thy tax increases be done, on earth as we also plan to do in heaven (if it exists),
Give us this day our daily handout.
And forgive us our squandering the toil of Americans for our narrow purposes,
as we forgive those who fight against us (Maybe not).
And lead us not into good governance,
but deliver us from Fox News.
For Obama is the kingdom, the power and the glory. For ever and ever. Amen

I will post my progress on the quest to give up my American citizenship here for everyone to see.....

Here was the second email that I sent to the US Consulate regarding going about the process of giving up my American citizenship. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the Hong Kong authorities to get a roadmap of how to get a Chinese citizenship. However, there are many other issues involved surrounding giving up the USA. First and foremost to me, is trying to find out what exactly I am giving up. I have paid over US$200,000 in Social Security and Medicare taxes up to this point and I need to find out what I am entitled to as a former citizen. Secondly, the US Government in its infinite wisdom has larded up the process with many different filings and requirements for filings that stretch as long as a decade into the future. Ergo, my questions....
Consulate General of Hong Kong,

I am a US born citizen now a permanent resident of Hong Kong. I am in process at trying to obtain citizenship here, which as you know is gaining citizenship of China. I am aware of the risks and the timing issues involved, but I need some answers from you before I decide to proceed since I will be required to give up my American citizenship.

Previously, I requested that the Consulate provide me with some info on giving up my citizenship. However, the only information that I have received involves the actual procedure of giving up citizenship but I have also hear that there are such issues as exit taxes and tax filing requirements that can last as long as a decade that will also have to be addressed. Additionally, I have a couple of IRA’s, have paid into Social Security and Medicare for a lifetime. I want to know how these programs are treated and what benefits that I give up upon relinquishing my citizenship.

If there is an officer that I could talk to on these issues, I would be very grateful.

Regards,
Glenzo
I received this back from the Consulate today.....
Dear Mr. Glenzo,

Thank you for your inquiry.

We do not have an IRS attaché in Hong Kong, but for your IRS-related and IRA/tax questions, you can take a look at the IRS website for international taxpayers at http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/index.html. It has general information and links to frequently asked questions. To ask specific questions, the contact information for the IRS office in Philadelphia that covers U.S. taxpayers in Hong Kong is

Internal Revenue Service
P.O. Box 920
Bensalem, PA 19020

Or you may telephone or FAX the Philadelphia Service Center office at:
Tel: 215-516-2000 (not toll-free)
Fax: 215-516-2555
Phone service available from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm (EST) M-F

If you are unable to get your questions answered there, you can send an e-mail to the tax attaché who covers Hong Kong who is in Beijing: Chinchie.C.Killfoil@irs.gov. While her primary role is to liaise foreign governments on tax-related issues, she has offered to assist U.S. taxpayers in Hong Kong. If your questions require specific recommendations, you may wish to consult an attorney that specializes in expat tax issues. Lists of attorneys are available on our website at http://hongkong.usconsulate.gov/acs_attorneys.html .

In regards to Social Security and Medicare benefits, please see the Social Security Administration international programs website at http://www.socialsecurity.gov/international/index.html, specifically the publication Social Security--Your Payments While You Are Outside the United States. This publication will help you determine if you will still be eligible to receive benefits if you give up your U.S. citizenship. Eligibility for Medicare is determined by Social Security eligibility, but Medicare benefits are only available in the United States, so you would not be able to get Medicare benefits in Hong Kong even if you are eligible. If after consulting the Social Security website, you still have questions related to your specific situation, please call our Federal Benefits Unit at 2841-2483.

We hope that this information answers your inquiry. However, if it does not, or if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to e-mail us again or call us at the phone numbers below.

Sincerely,

American Citizen Services
US Consulate General
26 Garden Road, Central, Hong Kong

Tel. 2841-2211, 2841-2225, 2841-2323
This is not going to be easy, but I think that I need to do it. I cannot bear any longer to see my formerly great nation become just another sclerotic socialist Euro state. Its fantastically embarrassing and honestly not worth fighting for. Better to move and say goodbye.

Breathless headline... "President Obama: Federal Government 'Will Go Bankrupt' if Health Care Costs Are Not Reined In"....

This guy, the President of the US, is complete and total idiot and he is trying to make an idiot out of each and every one of you. He is arguing that the nation needs to socialize healthcare in order to avoid bankruptcy of the nation. Huh? The old spend more to save more thingy. However, the problem with the neo-communist solution that the Democrats are promising to pass does almost nothing to cut costs and in addition, also creates massive new Federal bureaucracies, huge new taxes, gigantic increases in insurance premiums, unfunded mandates to the states, individuals, and employers and incentives for people to use more healthcare not less. The moron speaks....
President Obama told ABC News’ Charles Gibson in an interview that if Congress does not pass health care legislation that will bring down costs, the federal government “will go bankrupt.”

The president laid out a dire scenario of what will happen if his health care reform effort fails.

Gibson Obama “If we don't pass it, here's the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you,” he said. “Potentially they're going to drop your coverage, because they just can't afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year. “

The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an “unsustainable” trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, “the federal government will go bankrupt.”

“This actually provides us the best chance of starting to bend the cost curve on the government expenditures in Medicare and Medicaid,” Obama said.
Hello...Medicare and Medicaid are already government run programs and if the government is all that efficient and effective in managing healthcare, then why are they on an unsustainable trajectory? From here. How can the government save money for people. A clue for you people that are messianiac believers in big government, IT CANNOT BE DONE. For those that believe the silky opiate but nonsensical words of this moron, you are just as idiotic as this clown.

Also, just have a look at this, Medicare subsidizes the healthcare of elderly citizens and it has had to pay for residencies of new doctors to keep the teaching hospitals afloat that service these patients. But since Medicare is going bankrupt, they have reduced or capped funding for this program since 1997 and it has not kept pace with the need for doctors.....
Last year, there were 16,721 fewer primary-care doctors than needed in inner city and rural areas, according to the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. Residencies, the hospital based-training doctors undergo before they can practice medicine on their own, have been capped by Congress at about 90,000 since 1997 as a way to curb rising medical costs.

“Do the math,” said Safyer, president and chief executive officer at the New York hospital, in a telephone interview. “You give millions more people insurance, and it adds up to a much worse shortage.”

The doctor crunch is a result of an aging population and a rising demand for specialists, according to the federal health department. By 2025, the nation as a whole will confront a shortfall of as many as 159,300 doctors of all varieties, said Ed Salsberg, director of the Center for Workforce Studies at the Washington-based medical college association.
From here. Hahaha. I can just imagine that you folks that think that you will be able to see a doctor when you need it. You will be screwed since neo-communist healthcare run the government will never work and it will become much much worse than what the nation has now.

I went and got my citizenship application papers in order to apply for citizenship in a nation that is becoming more free, not less free like the US. I hope that I can extricate myself from that idiotic place.

Wine, regulation and the value of competition......

From Instapundit.

This piece on the rise of the California wine industry is a textbook example of people, when unshackled by government regulation, can take simple assets and make them into something more valuable. In this case, California in the 1970's and 80's were able through innovation and experimentation, beat the French in producing interesting and great wines.

While the Americans were not shackled by regulation, the French are required by law through a raft of regulation to grow certain grapes, produce wines within pre-ordained formulas and even have government taste testers to determine quality. This 'old' way of doing things from certain perspectives may be OK for the French, however, it does not provide for changing tastes of customers or shifts on demand around the world.

A bad healthcare bill is much much worse than no bill at all......

Americans are not stupid. Most know that government will do nothing that is positive for the typical American within the context of this current monstrosity moving through Congress. One can wrap this is all kinds of neo-communist words like 'justice' 'fairness' or any other words that one may hear in your typical college campus but this legislation does not address some of the root problems of American healthcare; lack of competition, unfunded mandates and out-of-control tort litigation that does little to improve the costs or delivery of healthcare but raises the costs.

I would prefer to die......

“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

— Winston Churchill
I would prefer to die and die fighting against them then to live as a slave to the neo-communists in the United States.

Subject: A Fairy tale for guys

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'

The girl said, 'NO!' And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and went fishing and hunting and watched lots of tv and played golf a lot and slept in and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

The end

passage of the day....

Simply put, the role of the American government is to remove obstacles to liberty of the People--even when that obstacle is American government itself. Supplying all of one's needs is not government's role. That's God's purview.

We all remember President Obama's statement containing the assertion that one of the flaws of the US Constitution was that is only contained a list of "negative rights," meaning negative government "rights." The idea that a Harvard-trained lawyer thinks that the government has rights or that there was no list of positive responsibilities assigned to government was mockable. (Hey, you voted for him.)
From here.

Remember, that governments cannot have rights just like a ham sandwich cannot have have rights. Ham sandwiches have a purpose or simply exist. The purpose that they serve is the purpose of providing what they are are capable of providing through their pure existence....sustenance in the case of consumption, looking good in their display and providing a means of sustenance through those that deliver, distribute, convey or do whatever other functions that ham sandwiches require to be ham sandwiches.

Governments role is to the adjudicate the rights that already exist amongst the individuals. They cannot convey rights of what they themselves do not have. They have not been granted the authority to create rights since, excuse my plain English, Who the heck are they? What rights were ever granted to them? Except the role to adjudicate these rights. As such, the government as it is now presented, as the redistributor of wealth, the conveyor of 'economic justice' and the ultimate lord of almost all things that concern man, is way outside of its capabilities to be an efficient of those responsibilities that it is charged with.

US Treasury default in the near future?

In today's Wall Street Journal these market statistics are being reported.....
Yet CMA DataVision calculates that professional investors with real money in the game still think there is a 3% or so chance that the U.S. might default within five years. And that 0.34% annual insurance cost is pretty hefty compared to the gross yield on five-year Treasury bonds, right now just 2.1% a year.
From here.

So, basically, one has to pay about 15% of the treasury bond yield of around 2.1% as insurance against default, in other words pay a hefty price as insurance against losses on principal. The reason why there is a concern on default is that modern governments no longer have the option to inflate out of their financial problems. Inflation used to provide an ability to reduce the expenses of excessive debt if an indebted government could create inflation. This can still be done, but bond markets are onto that trick these days and as a tool of sleazy governments to reduce their obligations is one that has become ineffective. At the first sign of inflationary problems, interest rates will rise dramatically to compensate for that inflation or the risk of inflation which will make refinancing this debt prohibitively expensive. As a result of inflation, the government will be faced with huge interest bills and a soft economy in which they are expected to take resources from to pay the increased interest and debt.

Good luck. Its not going to be much fun.

Just incase you were wondering......

Christianity is at fault for the recent financial problems in the world today, here. Its amazing how leftists (Marxists?) continue to bash Christians for all kinds of perceived ills, but its OK, since it tells us more about the frothing at-the-mouth secular left then Christians. Somehow, the writer conflates the belief that God provides to those that believe with the financial problems in the US. It obviously ignores that the financial problems were a GLOBAL phenomenon, but lets not get confused with reality when bashing Christians. But we Christians should not worry about such nonsense, since faith and our connection to the eternal God cannot be affected by what these people say.

Obamessiah hates America?

Well, according to this British commentator, the Obamessiah is using the EPA and the 'science' of global warming to circumvent Congress an its misgivings surrounding Euro style government intervention in everything we do. This approach by the Obamessiah is dangerous at its core since it attempts to circumvent the constitutional authority of Congress to make law.....
Obama hates America and, increasingly, that sentiment is being reciprocated. This is a socialist, World Government putsch. Have the American people the resolution to resist it? We shall soon know.
From here. I have no problem with a violent civil war against the centralization of power in Washington. The nation needs this cathartic exercise.

The beauty of wine......

I have become a big fan of wine. And there are biblical stories surrounding the consumption of wine....
John 2:1-11 (New International Version)

John 2
Jesus Changes Water to Wine

1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." 4 "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." 5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[a] 7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
11 This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.
One of Jesus earliest miracles performed as a young man, is this changing water into wine feat for a drunken wedding party. Jesus, a man of the people!

The EPA can now regulate everything...............

Yesterday, Dec. 7, 2009 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the heavy hand of Marxism from the Empire of the American Central Government.

The American Central Government has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the American homeland. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
Excerpts adopted from FDR's speak made on December 8, 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.

We are now undergoing unprecedented attacks from within as large number of the population want to control nearly every aspect of American life. Seeking to create a sclerotic European-like America, leftists currently seek to control your health, by taking your decision role out of the equation and leaving it in the hands of bureaucrats in Washington. Well, at least the wealthy will be able to travel to clinics in Asia and Mexico to get what they need.

Furthermore, on this day, December 7, 2009, the Environmental Protection Agency has declared CO2 and other 'greenhouse gases' as dangerous to the population, therefore, the door was opened today to government intervention in nearly every single aspect of our lives to control this 'danger.' Remember, that every breathe that you take, every calorie of food that one ingests, every step that is taken... you are releasing a little more CO2 into the atmosphere and therefore will technically fall under potential guidelines devised by your big brother in Washington....
PA: Greenhouse Gases Threaten Public Health and the Environment

Science overwhelmingly shows greenhouse gas concentrations at unprecedented levels due to human activity

WASHINGTON – After a thorough examination of the scientific evidence and careful consideration of public comments, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that greenhouse gases (GHGs) threaten the public health and welfare of the American people. EPA also finds that GHG emissions from on-road vehicles contribute to that threat.

GHGs are the primary driver of climate change, which can lead to hotter, longer heat waves that threaten the health of the sick, poor or elderly; increases in ground-level ozone pollution linked to asthma and other respiratory illnesses; as well as other threats to the health and welfare of Americans.
From the EPA website here.

Some of you may argue that the Supreme Court will protect Americans from such a gross intervention into everyday American life, but alas, the Supreme Court has been supportive historically on government intervention through the 16 words of Commerce Clause in the Constitution. Everything, just your simple existence, involves interstate commerce and therefore allows the central government to regulate aspect of your life.

Good luck America, it was fun while it lasted. But the rush towards government control will destroy incentives and the fabric of American life that made this the most dynamic and successful nation in history.

Satan.......

George Bush, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die and go to hell. While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for. The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth. Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes. When he was finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars, so Putin writes him a check.

Next Queen Elizabeth calls England and talks for 30 minutes. When she was finished the devil informs her that cost is 6 million dollars, so Queen Elizabeth writes him a check. Finally George Bush gets his turn and talks for 4 hours. When he was finished the devil informed him that there would be no charge for the call and feel free to call the USA anytime.

When Putin hears this he goes ballistic and asks the devil why Bush got to call the USA free. The devil replied, "Since Obama became president of the USA , the country has gone to hell, so it's a local call."

Stormin' Norman.....

In a recent interview general Norman Schwarzkopf was asked if he thought there was room for forgiveness towards the people who had harbored and abetted the terrorists who perpetrated the 9/11 attack against America.

His answer was classic.

The General said: "I BELIEVE THAT FORGIVING THEM IS GOD'S FUNCTION, OUR JOB IS TO ARRANGE THE MEETING."

We all know that meat is a big consumer of CO2. Enjoy your meatless life going forward. Remeber that Soylent Green is people!!!!!

“Poor Al Gore: Global Warming Completely Debunked By the Internet You Invented.”

Wednesday, December 02, 2009

All kinds of global warming goodies surfacing.....

I have written in past, here, that the followers of 'Global Warming' do so with a religious fanaticism. For those that need a religion, this 'science seems just like the right thing that meets people's need for some kind of spirituality. Worship the earth, kind of like an ancient animist, a noble savage.....

Nothing better than running around naked, hugging trees and worshiping the earth and the new religious prophet, Al Gore. Other benefits include....
1. telling people that they need to ride bikes.
2. Another source of tax revenue for all kinds of leftist programs as governments now can tax these awful global warming people and businesses.
3. Can rub elbows with all kinds of cool celebrities.
4. Feel better about oneself that you are doing something good by forcing others to adjust their life to what you think is right
Now, we have heard that some of the most important research centers at the heart of the 'science' such as one important one, University of East Anglia, where we can find this lovely picture on their website....

and whom provided the foundation to the IPCC United Nations alarmist reports in recent years, did some not-so scientific things in their pursuit of proving global warming....
1. Fudged data to fit the story,
2. destroyed records of original data sets so that subsequent adjustments could not be reviewed,
3. tried to keep the data out of the hands of other scientists so that it becomes difficult to perform typical peer review,
4. tried to get dissenting scientists and journal editors fired,
5. relied (not so innocently) upon a computer model that seems to be designed to have a predetermined outputs.
This was more than just overplaying their cards. It was downright dishonest.

I, of course, since I am so wise, noticed that the arguments that were being made did not make a whole lot of logical sense and may not have been reliable since, yes, the oceans have been rising as a result of global warming, but for the past 18,000 years. What does 150 years of measurements prove within such a volatile time span? The level of the oceans have risen 400 feet in this period. Yikes. Must have been all of those Neanderthals burning sticks in their caves to keep warm. Read all of this Glenzo wisdom, here. But a nice tidbit to chew on.....
The swarm on global warming continues and drumbeat of 'news' and the shrill voice of politics is raising its ugly useless head through the recent report issued by that ridiculous organization, the UN.

Supposedly, as the UN report claims, that 90% of all scientists agree that human intervention is the cause of global warming. 4 out of 5 dentists also supposedly agree that Sugarless Trident Gum whitens teeth or is better for your teeth but also, 1 out of 5 dentists don't agree. Maybe the 1 didn't understand the question or didn't think that it was the most important reason or a major factor in teeth whitening or tooth health. Sugary gum is probably is a contributing factor to tooth decay but probably not the primary reason for trouble and it is difficult to prove the sugar/sugarless gum theory since there are probably very few controls to testing and controlling the theory. This is a problem with climate change. It is difficult to conclude without question that changes are completely due to human activities, what can be done about it and what the level of intervention should be used to achieve the most desirable impact. But thank you Al Gore for inventing the Internet and inventing climate change.
The bottom line here, is that despite serious problems with the standing of what was considered serious scientific research, there will be those that continue to argue that the concept of 'global warming' or the new broader moniker, 'climate change' is completely settled. I argue that it isn't settled. There is no way to achieve a reduction in the growth of CO2 without destroying other things like economies or productive lives or as I think, interventions that will kill people and cause them greater poverty. The medicine will be worse than the disease if we let these governments solve the problem. If, in fact, there is global warming caused by humans or is just a force of nature, therefore, something that we cannot really change that much, what we need to do is to brace ourselves for these changes not to waste time and energy on this silliness.

Thought of the day....

The Declaration of Independence states that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.” The American understanding of democracy does not envision voters as slaves who enjoy the privilege of voting for a new master every few years. When the Declaration speaks of the right – and, later the duty – of the people to abolish tyrannical governments, it renders the notion of “mandates” to impose radical change on unwilling citizens absurd.
From here on Presidential mandates an the consent of the governed.
